Previous name: Mandoo II. She was designed in 1935, number 623, and was built for D Spencer Berger. In 1948 she was offered to the Annapolis Academy. John F Kennedy & Marilyn Monroe are meant to have had 'meetings' on board.
Between 1988 and 1989 Bill Coffman conducted a major restoration on Royono with his crew of 18 at his shop "The Woodworks" in West End, Tortola, B.V.I. The owner of the boat, Phillip Bomare (Swiss) at the time also owned the 3-masted schooner 150' Shenendoah which they did the topmast for. The restoration included building of new masts, replacing steel frames, constructing interior woodwork, new decks and skylights. A restoration took place in La Ciotat by Alex Laird(Partridge) and Butch Dalrymple Smith completing the boat for 2003. |
