'Escaper' was designed by Baron Weddel-Weddelsoborg for Flt Lt Eric Williams, writer of the wartime escape thriller 'The Wooden Horse'. Eric originally intended to make "the world's slowest circumnavigation" in Escaper. He didn't manage that but he and his wife took Escaper beyond the Greek Islands where they sailed the Turkish coast and frequently over-wintered in Kyrenia harbour, Cyprus. Eric died in 1977. Escaper stayed in the Med until 1998. She then returned to Ocean village, Southampton and was snaffled up by me in about 1 week. She was refastened and generally tidied up at the Elephant Boatyard before returning to the Med in my hands in 2003. We are now cruising the med at a very slow pace (in keeping with Escaper's ladylike demeanour). The original Lister 6frm engine was replaced by a Sole (Mitsubishi) in 2006.
